Syrina E Bennett 1873

CDV portrait of a young woman, head and shoulders view, showing her hair parted down the center, curly and somewhat unruly at top, and hanging back and on top of one shoulder. She wears a thin ribbon around her neck held with a round pin, and her dress has a lace collar with two points that come down in front about two or three inches, and another, larger, round pin at her throat. There is a plaid pattern on front of her dress, that may or may not be part of the dress itself, probably not as the rest of the dress appears to be plain material, though not much of it shows in this photo. The back of the card is inscribed in purple ink 'Syrina E Bennett / May 27th 7 1873.' One is tempted to suppose this is the wife of Horace J Bennett whose photo is also in this collection, bearing the exact same date -- though no photographers imprint -- but that has not be researched. This card, on the other hand, has an imprint in black ink on the white card, two simple lines: 'W A CULVER / Ft. Dodge, Iowa.' over an NPA logo.

NOTE: Transcription conventions:
When transcribing inscriptions (hand-written notes) or imprints (printed data) or stamped information (hand-stamped marks) the information is usually enclosed in single quotes [ ' ] with a slash to represent line breaks [ / ] -- however if the line includes an apostrophe, it will be enclosed in blank underlines instead [ _ ] and if the line includes a slash line breaks will be represented with a percent sign [ % ]. All transcriptions are based on best-effort, we are not responsible for errors -- some writing and even fancy printed texts are very difficult to read, and the copy may be smeared, faded, obscured or otherwise made even less legible.
