Isaac Harper 1866

CDV portrait of a gentleman, head and shoulders, no background. With card with clipped corners, inscription and photographres imprint on back. The man is wearing his hair combed over to one side, but it does not cover the ear, and he has no sideburns or whiskers. The tie shows only the knot, the rest being tucked under the folded over collar or under the vest. The jacket appears to have a darker collar than the rest of the material. There is an inscription in pencil at top back 'Isaac Harper'. The photographers imprint is in a small cartouche, rectangular with rounded sides and a floral pattern at top and bottom. The imprint consists of three lines: 'Norton & Johnson / Photographers, / Kewanee, Ill.' There is also a green three-cent tax stamp, FORnEXHANGE type (the n is raised with a dot under it) and cancelled 'N & J / June 11 / 1866'

NOTE: Transcription conventions:
When transcribing inscriptions (hand-written notes) or imprints (printed data) or stamped information (hand-stamped marks) the information is usually enclosed in single quotes [ ' ] with a slash to represent line breaks [ / ] -- however if the line includes an apostrophe, it will be enclosed in blank underlines instead [ _ ] and if the line includes a slash line breaks will be represented with a percent sign [ % ]. All transcriptions are based on best-effort, we are not responsible for errors -- some writing and even fancy printed texts are very difficult to read, and the copy may be smeared, faded, obscured or otherwise made even less legible.
