ClassyArts Graphics -- Our Philosophy
The images provided by ClassyArts are intended to meet a wide variety of potential user's needs. From the family historian or local history researcher, to the graphic artist looking for inspiration, there is public domain material available. Our images may also be used by historic and industrial archaeologists, photo-historians, artists, programmers, web designers, businesses needing graphics for advertising or illustration, authors, students and many others who seek just the right public domain image for their project. We attempt to index and organize the vast wealth of public domain graphic resources, and make them available. This means we have some very fine, large resolution images, and some very low resolution images, and everything in-between. That is why each description includes the exact dimensions (in pixels) of the image, and size of the image in bytes. Though those are not 100% correlated with clarity or resolution of image, it is indicative, and combined with the thumbnail image should provide enough information for potential users to judge which images may be of interest. We also have iconic images that are easily recognized and unique images that have nearly been lost to obscurity. Our initial emphasis is on old photographs -- many may be the only remaining images of long-deceased individuals -- so for those we tolerate a rather low level of resolution. Sorry for that when you want to use those same images to examine clothing details or other resolution-dependent information, but we do the best we can. The images described are the best copies we have available. In the near future we will begin adding lithographs and other printed images. Your support is appreciated.
