E Butler 1880

CDV portrait of a middle-aged man with receding hairline, his hair is parted at one side and combed over the top, short enough it doesn't cover the ears. He also has a small beard, but no mustache or sideburns. He is wearing a suit coat with broad lapel, matching vest, white shirt with a short upright collar and dark bow tie with large square knot and the ends tucked under the vest on either side. The card is light green on both sides, smooth but not glossy. The front has a gilt line around the outer edge, about 2 mm thick -- both the line and card are rounded at the corners, though the bottom has been trimmed square. There is a photographers imprint on front, but it has been trimmed off ... it looks like 'Barker' on the lower left, though it could be Parker. The trimming was crooked so even less of the location is visible, it seems to start with a 'W'. The back is inscribed in ink: 'Truly Yours, / E. Butler / July 2, 1880'

NOTE: Transcription conventions:
When transcribing inscriptions (hand-written notes) or imprints (printed data) or stamped information (hand-stamped marks) the information is usually enclosed in single quotes [ ' ] with a slash to represent line breaks [ / ] -- however if the line includes an apostrophe, it will be enclosed in blank underlines instead [ _ ] and if the line includes a slash line breaks will be represented with a percent sign [ % ]. All transcriptions are based on best-effort, we are not responsible for errors -- some writing and even fancy printed texts are very difficult to read, and the copy may be smeared, faded, obscured or otherwise made even less legible.
